Bill Webb Appointed by Governor to Golden LEAF Board

Longtime Richmond County attorney Bill Webb has been appointed by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein to the Board of Directors of LEAF Inc.

The governor's office made the announcement in a list of appointments on September 30.

Webb's appointment was due to being chairman of the NC Rural Infrastructure Authority.

His first meeting was Thursday, October 2 with the board awarding $8.4 million including $2.7 million to support seven projects through the Open Grants Program; $1 million to support a SITE Program project; $1 million to support a project at East Carolina University; and $220,000 for Hurricane Helene relief.

The 13-member board is appointed by the Governor, President Pro Tempore of the state Senate and Speak of the House.

Golden LEAF has funded 2,356 projects totaling $1.5 billion "supporting the mission of advancing economic opportunity in North Carolina's rural, tobacco-dependen, and economically distressed communities" since 1999, according to the organization.

Webb earned his Juris Doctor in 1978, and he was admitted to the NC State Bar the following year.

During his 45 hears of legal practice, Webb served as the attorney for the Richmond County government.

Webb's community service extended to previously being a board member of the Local Government Commission, and Richmond County Board of Elections, as well as serving as the chairman of the local Democratic Party. He currently serves as a board member of FirstHealth Moore Regional Health Care System and the Community Foundation of Richmond County.

Late last year, Webb - along with former district attorney Reece Saunders - was honored with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Webb is the second Richmond County resident to receive a gubernatorial appointment since Stein took office in January.

Jeff Joyner was appointed to the NC Veterans Affairs Commission in April.

Richmond County native (now living in Moore County) and former state representative Ken Goodman was reappointed to the NC Industrial Commission in February.

Several Richmond County residents and natives were appointed to various boards and commissions during former governor Roy Cooper's terms.
