Personal Bio:

Laura was born and raised in Pinehurst, North Carolina. She is a disciplined, dedicated, and mission-focused lawyer.

She brings the habits she has gained being part of the community to her legal practice, including a sense of mission and a dedication to hard work. Laura thrives on giving back to her community which has given her so much.

She double majored in Greek and Latin at Duke University. There she served on the Duke Mock Trial Team and the Duke Honor Council. Laura went on to law school at W&L. There, Laura was a member of the Virginia Capital Clearinghouse Clinic where she provided trial-level legal aid and services to defense attorneys who represented indigent clients in capital cases in Virginia. The student body elected Laura to the University’s Executive Committee, which apportions a $500,000 budget to student-led groups and investigates and adjudicates honor system violations.

During her years in Virginia, Laura became Miss Virginia USA and traveled the Commonwealth for an entire year to promote Virginia and her personal platform of educating high school students on the Constitution. Laura taught a semester course on the Constitution to high school students in Roanoke, Virginia, for which she was formally recognized by the Senate and Governor of Virginia.  She placed in the Top 15 at Miss USA.

The Army has moved Laura and her husband across the country to Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and back home to North Carolina.  A former civilian attorney for the Department of the Army’s Office of Soldier’s Counsel, Laura counseled and fought for wounded and ill Service Members undergoing medical board separation from the US Army and provided legal counsel through the VA disability process.

Laura’s Service Member clients overwhelmingly chose Laura for the MEDCOM ICE customer service award out of all attorneys in her five-installation region for her attention to detail, ability to communicate difficult federal statutes and regulations in a straightforward and understandable way, and quality of reputation with clients.  The Command at CRDAMC awarded Laura the Civilian Service Achievement Medal for her work at Fort Hood.

Laura is an avid reader of history and enjoys going on walks with her husband and daughter, playing tennis, and mentoring young ballet dancers in performance and technique.
